It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  In my case, it would be just as accurate to say, “A picture is worth a thousand miles, experiences, thoughts, stories, opportunities, or memories.”

Every shot involves one or more of these motivations.  Whenever one of my images is shared – someone is challenged to find the story that is in it.  That is why people collect photos – it is about the story, the memory, the connection with an event, the place, or the time that has special meaning.  Through photos we remember our past, celebrate our present, and imagine our future.

Recent activities:

I have just returned from a three month adventure photographing activities and events on the Island of Maui.  In addition to capturing the images of hundreds of Humpback Whales I added photos of flowers, hula dancers, waves, rainbows, sunsets, and other representations of the island life.  Send me an email request and I will forward to you some of the samples of these spectacular photographs.

What’s new:

For most of us photographing a “Cirque” production is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  I was privileged to photograph the Maui - “Cirque Polynesia” show from just about every angle imaginable, from back stage, on stage, below the performers and even from the perch of the high wire act.  This challenging assignment has opened my eyes to new horizons.  There are copies of photos currently available in the Sonnshot portfolio.

Once in a lifetime:

They tell me that there are less than a thousand Monk Seals in the world.  These darling creatures seem to hang around the Hawaiian Islands most of their lives and still very few people have ever seen one.  Check the gallery under the subject of “Marine Life” you will see a photograph of my breathtaking experience of a Monk Seal swimming with our boat off the shore of Lahina, Maui.

Coming up

Plans are in the works for a 6,000 mile trip through mid-America.  Photo stops include: Bryce Canyon, Jackson Hole, Mt. Rushmore, Lakes of Minnesota, Hannibal Missouri, Lake of the Ozarks, Oklahoma City Memorial, Carlsbad Caverns, and Las Cruces New Mexico.  There will many opportunities to add to my collection of Attractions and Landscapes.
